Exhaust gas temperature measurement is an optimal method for monitoring the current state of the engine and mixture preparation. Simply put: exhaust gas too hot, mixture too lean or exhaust gas too cold, mixture too rich. Carburettor adjustments can be made or injection times improved to bring the engine to optimum performance and temperature. Even the permanent "burning" of the engine at the speed limit does not make you sweat when you know that the engine has an optimal gas exchange.
